At present, emergency payments of £25 a week are made when the average temperature in a specific area in falls to freezing or below for seven consecutive days. Those who receive pension credit or income support qualify for the assistance.


It means as many as four million people could be eligible for payments.
Gideon thinks it's fine to slash the amount from £25 to £8.50. 

Realistically, these payments rarely come into effect - is it really worth the "nasty party" tag?
